Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions about Microloc installation, maintenance, timelines, and policies.

What are Microlocs?

Microlocs are a smaller form of traditional locs, started with a small braid and continued with a braid or twist, then maintained with interlocking.

What is the difference between Microlocs and Sisterlocks?

Sisterlocks is a trademarked method with a specific certification and grid system. Microlocs are installed with twists, braids, or coils and do not require a specific grid.

How often do I need a retie?

Reties are recommended every 4–8 weeks to maintain your locs and prevent combining.

What happens if I am over a month late for a retie?

Late retie pricing is quoted by each month overdue. For example, being 3 months late is priced as 3 reties.

Can Microlocs be undone?

Yes, with specific tools and patience. However, we do not offer Microloc removal services.

How long does it take for Microlocs to mature?

Timelines vary by hair type and routine, but typical stages range from starter (up to 3 months) to fully loc’d (about 1 to 5 years depending on method).
